Pre-Purchase Surveys

At Vanterpool Marine Surveys, we understand that purchasing a boat is a big decision, and we're here to help you make an informed one.

We excel at providing thorough and detailed Pre-Purchase Marine Surveys and uncovering any possible defects, including those of structural or mechanical nature.

We usually conduct a survey in-water and out-of-water, and a trial run to ascertain the vessel's overall performance and test the critical components while the boat is underway.

During our surveys, we will:

  • Inspect the hull below the waterline for condition and damage.

  • Ascertain the structural integrity of the hull and decks and Identify defects, deterioration, damage, and previous repairs where visible or accessible Using Visual and Non-Destructive Testing methods.

  • Inspect the tankage (water, fuel, waste), piping, and hoses, to ascertain their condition.

  • Review the vessel’s registration and hull number, and confirm the vessel’s identity.

  • Ascertain the condition of the mast and rigging (sailing vessels).

  • Inspect for condition and list the electrical equipment.

  • Ascertain the condition of the engines, generators, fuel system, steering system, and other systems through visual inspection and as far as can be ascertained from their operation. We can arrange (Oil samples, compression tests, and other assessments upon request).

  • Inspect the safety and navigation equipment for condition and compliance with requirements.

  • Our marine surveys will detail the estimated market value of the boat based on current market research, including BUC Values and the surveyor’s opinion in the Marine Survey Report.

We provide a verbal or written initial report within 24hrs of the survey and an interactive PDF Marine Survey Report with details and digital photographs of the vessel, usually within (5) business days.
